Summer Sinclair’s iPhone Film Heads to Indie Vegas Film Festival at Aliante Casino

Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas may not be the first city that comes to mind when you think of filmmaking, but creatives like Summer Sinclair are quickly changing that narrative.
As a producer, director, and actor, Sinclair represents a new wave of independent filmmakers who are proving that storytelling doesn’t require massive budgets, just vision, resilience, and execution.
I sat down with Summer alongside Alter New Media co-founder and CEO, Nadya Rousseau, after meeting Summer at the Nevada Women’s Film Festival, where her short film The Interview left a lasting impression. What we discovered was a one-woman production powerhouse reshaping what’s possible in today’s indie film landscape.
Independent Film in Las Vegas
Summer Sinclair is continuing to gain momentum in the indie film space, with her short film The Interview officially selected for the Indie Vegas Film Festival at Aliante Casino on April 30.
The recognition follows a strong reception at the Nevada Women’s Film Festival, where Sinclair’s work stood out for both its storytelling and unconventional production approach.
Originally from New York, Sinclair began her career as an actress before transitioning into filmmaking after relocating to Las Vegas during the pandemic.
“I always was an actress… I’ve been acting since I was in high school,” Sinclair shared.
A Film Made Without a Crew
What sets The Interview apart is not just its psychological tension, but how it was created.
“I did it all by myself. There was no crew, no fancy equipment. I did it with an iPhone 15.”
The film, which centers on a man in a sanitarium being evaluated by a therapist, was produced on a micro-budget of under $1,000. Thus, challenging traditional assumptions about what’s required to create festival-worthy content.
“I used to think… you have to spend millions of dollars… and that’s what stopped me,” she said.
From Concept to Festival Selection
Despite early setbacks, including recasting challenges and delays, Sinclair revisited the project after shelving it for nearly two years.
“I said, I’m going to make this picture… I’m going to take it out of the shelf and I’m going to make the picture.”
That decision paid off. The film has now been selected multiple times, including its upcoming screening at Aliante Casino.
“I was selected a second time, which… really boggles my mind,” Sinclair said.
Building Films in Las Vegas
Sinclair’s process reflects both creativity and adaptability within a growing but still lively Nevada film ecosystem. From casting actors through Facebook groups to holding in-person readings, her approach is hands-on and resourceful.
“I’m just a one woman show… I’m just doing things the best I could, and I’m learning as I go.”
What’s Next
Sinclair is already developing her next project: a longer psychological thriller with similar suspense-driven elements and an unexpected twist.
Her long-term goal includes producing a feature-length film inspired by her own life, structured in a non-linear format.
“I would like to make a movie… a fictional account of my life,” she said.
A Growing Voice in Indie Film
As Las Vegas continues to evolve as a creative hub, filmmakers like Summer Sinclair are proving that compelling stories can emerge from anywhere, regardless of budget or traditional infrastructure.
Her journey reflects a larger shift in independent filmmaking, where access to tools and determination can outweigh limitations.
What’s Next: A Psychological Thriller in Progress
Sinclair is already working on her next project: a 40–45-minute psychological thriller centered on themes of complexity, mystery, and duplicity, common in her work. Staying true to her style, the film will include a signature twist inspired by filmmakers like M. Night Shyamalan.
She describes the tone as suspense-driven rather than gory, blending psychological depth with unpredictability.
